A fabric panel on a slim aluminium tube — the cleanest, most made-to-measure answer for apartment and cluster glazing, from full blackout to a whisper of view-preserving mesh.
Roller blinds are the default for a reason: a single mechanism, an enormous fabric range, and a fit that's made to your exact opening rather than bought off a shelf. In Illovo's clusters and apartment blocks — where full-height glass is standard and every wall seems to face something worth looking at — the fabric choice is really the only decision that matters.
Sunscreen mesh is the default answer for view-facing glass: it cuts glare and UV while keeping the skyline or garden visible from inside. Blockout does the opposite job properly — bedrooms, nurseries, media rooms and anyone on shift work get genuine darkness, plus a working layer of insulation against summer heat and winter cold.
For a room that needs both — a bedroom with a view worth keeping by day, but full privacy and darkness by night — a double roller pairs sunscreen and blockout on one bracket. It's the practical answer we specify most often on Illovo's street- or tower-facing bedrooms.
Specification options
Chain control with a child-safe tensioner as standard, spring-assist for lighter fabrics, or fully motorised — the only practical option above stair voids and double-volume glass.
A colour-matched cassette hides the tube and gives the whole window a cleaner, boxier finish — popular on Illovo's more architectural units.
A single blind runs to roughly 3m of fabric width before a join line is needed. Beyond that, we split the opening or link blinds under one motor.
Honest fit
They win on modern apartments and clusters, big glass, tight-to-premium budgets, and easy day-to-day cleaning — which covers most of Illovo's stock.
They lose on very wide unbroken spans (a join line becomes visible) and on heritage-cottage detailing, where a timber venetian usually suits the room better. We'll tell you honestly which applies at the measure.
What it costs
Read these as a guide per square metre, installed. A hand-operated roller — chain or spring, in blockout, sunscreen or light-filtering fabric — sits between R1,000 and R1,600 per square metre, with a plain blockout at the foot of that band and a low-openness sunscreen or a double roller near the head of it. Motorised, the same window runs R2,500 to R3,800 per square metre, taking in the tube drive, the control you pick you pick and the setting-up on fitting day.
Two things are worth knowing before you do any arithmetic. A small pane carries a minimum charge, because a bathroom window still needs its own brackets, tube, fabric cut and fitting time. And a band is not a quote: each opening is costed by itself at the measure, and the result is put in writing before a single blind is ordered.
