Close-up detail of charcoal venetian slats with brass hardware in natural light

Products · Venetian blinds

Light you can steer, not just switch off.

Horizontal slats that tilt to any angle — full view, filtered light or complete privacy, without raising or lowering the blind at all.

The most adjustable window in the apartment.

A roller is open or closed by degrees; a venetian steers light direction. Tilt the slats up for glare-free daylight, down for privacy from the unit above, or flat closed for the dark. Illovo's mix of double-storey clusters and high-rise apartments — where the sun's angle and the neighbour's sightline both change through the day — is exactly the situation this product was built for.

The charcoal-and-brass finish shown here is a popular pairing on Illovo's more contemporary units: powder-coated aluminium slats with a warm metal tilt wand and headrail trim, reading as considered hardware rather than an afterthought.

  • Aluminium — 25mm or 50mm slats — the moisture champion for bathrooms and kitchens, huge colour range, budget-friendly.
  • Timber & bamboo — 50mm basswood or bamboo slats for a warm, architectural finish; suits studies and character rooms, kept out of steamy bathrooms.
  • Very wide windows — timber is heavier than aluminium, so wide spans get split or ladder-tape supported rather than forced into one blind.
  • Motorised tilt — available on premium lines, so the whole wall of slats angles together from one control.

Where to use which

Aluminium, timber, or both in one home.

Bathrooms & kitchens

Aluminium is the honest answer near steam and splashes — fabric and timber simply don't hold up as well in wet rooms.

Studies & formal rooms

Timber's real-material warmth suits sash windows, character detailing and any room where the blind is meant to be noticed.

Coastal-grade hardware

Powder-coated aluminium is the durable choice wherever hardware sees heavy sun and dust — a rinse-wipe now and then keeps it crisp.

What it costs

Aluminium and timber, priced separately.

Slat material is the first thing the price answers to. Aluminium venetians in 25mm or 50mm run about R1,000 to R1,500 per square metre installed by wand and cord, and R2,500 to R3,600 per square metre once tilt and lift are motorised. Timber and bamboo cost more to make and more to hang: budget R1,600 to R2,600 per square metre hand-operated, and R3,000 to R4,500 per square metre motorised.

Those are guide bands per square metre, installed, not a fixed rate. Small windows — a scullery, a guest cloakroom — carry a minimum charge, since the headrail, slats and fitting labour barely shrink with the opening. And a band is not a quote: each opening is costed by itself at the measure, and the result is put in writing before a single blind is ordered.
